Across the Cherokee’s six trim levels, three engine options are provided. At the bottom of the lineup, Latitude and Latitude Plus models come standard with a 2.4-liter MultiAir2 Tigershark four-cylinder engine good for 180 horsepower and 170 lb.-ft. of torque. The standard engine also offers a 2,000-lb. max tow rating.
For 2019, the Cherokee’s four remaining trim levels (Trailhawk, Limited, Trailhawk Elite and Overland) get suited with an all-new 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 engine. This robust V6 impresses with 271 horsepower, 239 lb.-ft. of torque and best-in-class V6 towing at 4,500 lbs. when equipped with the Trailer Tow Group or the Tow Prep Package.
Latitude Plus, Trailhawk, Limited, Trailhawk Elite and Overland models also have the option to upgrade to the 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The turbo option offers up to 270 horsepower and maxes out the model for toque at 295 lb.-ft. The engine also offers a max. towing capacity of 4,000 lbs. when paired with the Trailer Tow Group or Tow Prep Package.
All Cherokee engines are now connected to a new TorqueFlite nine-speed automatic transmission. The high-quality transmission offers smooth gearshifts, aggressive launches and a more fuel-efficient drive.
